Developments in Television Industry
Cartoons, music videos, films, documentaries, reality contests, talk shows, sports, soap operas, news, advertisements – these and many types of programmes make up the vast landscape of the television industry today. They fill numerous channels on our TV sets, giving us wide options for entertainment. Cable networks usually provide a wide selection of channels to cater to the interests of various audiences, with some channels requiring additional charges. On the other hand, there are households that subscribe to satellite TV, which lets them select from a far bigger range of channels. Satellite TV also lets viewers subscribe only to the channels that they actually watch. With competition rising among various TV programmes, producers strive each year to make their shows more interesting than the others. They introduce new formats and come up with new gimmicks. They employ new techniques in the direction and artistic design of their productions. In the field of cartoons, for example, producers are turning toward graphic animation and 3D animation. With the latter becoming more and more popular, manufacturers of television sets are coming up with home plasma and LCD TV sets that can actually display graphics in 3D form, minus the use of quirky glasses.
