Plasma vs LCD Television

Plasma vs LCD Television

Today's trend in home theatre systems is leaning towards two characteristics: flat and wide. Televisions today come as thin as four inches deep. They are made to suit wide screen filming. They are so thin that they can conveniently be hung on the wall, thus taking up less room space. They also look much better than normal bulky TVs, which are bound to become a “thing of the past” soon. The two types of television sets that exemplify these features are plasma TVs and LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs. If you are having a hard time choosing which type of television you will buy, then allow us to help you out. When it comes to picture contrast, plasma can render deeper blacks than LCD can. Plasma can also give better picture saturation. It can show more precise and accurate colours. Another very important advantage of plasma technology is that it displays little or no motion lag. This means that very fast moving images look better on plasma TVs than on LCD sets. On the other hand, LCD TV sets are not susceptible to burn-in when an image is displayed on the TV for a long time. It has a viewing angle 165 degrees, which is slightly wider than that of plasma. LCD sets consume much less power than plasma sets do. They also outlast the life span of their plasma counterparts – LCD TVs can last for 50,000-60,000 hours while plasma TVs usually last for 25,000-30,000 hours. So, if you want a home theatre experience with the widest available screen and better picture quality, then you can get yourself a plasma TV. However, if you want a slimmer TV that will not cost you so much but still give you good quality, you will not go wrong with LCD.
